Intros&Interludes

So here we are. September 19th, 2010 and I'm finally putting out a little music to satisfy myself and a few others. Really, it's been a long time coming. For years, I've written songs and recorded them but they've never left the comforts of my garageband folder of my computer. These days, I think I'm ready to step outside the folder and put it out for people to hear and listen to. Honestly, I couldn't tell you where I came up with the idea of 'Intros&Interludes'. I think I started working on little stuff here and there at the beginning of the summer and it all just grew from there. I had a lot of time on my hands this summer, so I figured I'd put my talent and time to good use. I remember vividly one week in the late summer where I recorded 4 songs straight. Around that time, I figured I had a little project on my hands and continued to delve deeper into it.
The thing I love about these songs is that although I used poetic license, I'd say 95-98% of these songs were written from true events. Probably the only song that has a fictional spin to it is "Can You Say It" which is the opening intro. Songs like "Infatuated" and "4am" are songs that I have lived through and experienced. A few people have already heard the EP and have asked if I wrote all the songs. I did, indeed, write every song on the project. Some people are just now finding out about my talent, but it's something I've been working on and developing for absolutely years. None of this has happened overnight. I hate talking and writing about myself, cause I feel like I'm bragging.
But the whole concept behind this EP is simple: in my past music listening experiences, I've noticed that interludes are some of people's favorite songs. You run them back over and over because they just don't seem long enough. I figured I'd do the same. This EP, in my opinion, gives people just enough without giving too much and it acts as a trial run as to whether or not music should be a real live avenue for me. I guess we'll have to see. For the most part, I'm happy at how everything has turned out. The order of the songs just seemed to fall into place, the timing, the tracks, everything. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed creating.

Angels & 4am & Dilla

{Angel's Lyrics}

When Angels
Dance over you
I see them

You're unaware
Their even there
Cause
You're sleeping

It's cause I sing this lullaby for you
It's something that Angels cry to
I got something to sleep to
Something to dream to

And I'll sing it every night
Until you close your eyes
And let their wings take you on a flight
I got something to dream to.

I got something to dream to.

Vs.

Alright, I got two videos for ya'll to peep. Comments after

video looks like it might be cool, but it's like reading a book and then seeing the movie of the book. It totally messes up the visuals I initially had for this song. I really hope the director takes the video in a different direction for the last 2 minutes of "Fancy" because, to me, that's the more important and beautiful part of the song.
Ps- why is T.I. trying to sound so articulate? Are you trying to tell us that all you did was read while on the box? #sweet.

No features? Cool! Some Illmatic type. I can respect him for trying to stand on his own two and show that he can actually hold listeners attention for 14, 15 songs, just him. And is it just me or did he fire shots? I could be making something out of nothing, but TML had some of the hottest rappers in the game featured. Coincidence? #PowPow

Someone tell Maliah I'm On Fire

Ms. Maliah Michel

Other than the fact I wanted to put some sweet eye candy on the blog, I wanted you guys to read a comment someone made on a post from 2DopeBoyz that featured Michel. I found it hilarious and quite insightful.

"actually she strips to make her cash along with modeling.. aint nothin wrong wit it.. not everyone’s a Rhode’s scholar or has the patience to sit at a desk everyday..as long as she gets checks written to her she got a rite to do ehat she wants..

im tired of these self-rightous ppl putting others down for what they do..let em live..it aint like she doin porno..but we all watch that stuff anyway so someone gotta act in it..rite?

Leave off the latch for you
Go to the store for you
Do it some'more for you
Do what you want me to
Guess I'm a fool for you

Honorable Mentions 12

This is a special Honorable Mentions post because today, I only want to focus on Rick Ross' third installment of Maybach Music produced by The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. And what a magnificent job The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. league did with this elaborate auditory imagery of the extravagant lifestyle of the rich and famous. This song is amazing. It paints the most vivid and luxurious picture of a lifestyle Ross is trying to portray and deliver, ultimately with his impending Teflon Don. Ross has always been one to lavishly spit about the lavish and expensive lifestyle of the moneyed and wealthy, by ways of the dope game. But with this, Rose Cuervo and his League stepped the good life up, yet another level with the help of unsuspected friends. It opens, and that it does, with a twinkle and a beautiful orchestration unfolding into a dramatic and powerful outburst brought in by the tightest snare and kick. The storm soon calms. And we are welcomed in by TIP with the words, "My Garage Is Flawless, Under A Hundred 'Thou 'Aint Allowed." He southern charms his way through his verse effortlessly. Talk of cloud-white automobiles, promiscuous women, and Waldolf Historians. After, an unexpected yet familiar voice presents us with a classy chorus delivered on a silver platter. Oo, Ms. Badu. When I first saw that she was going to be on this song, my heart leaped. I'm glad she's there.

We're taken upstairs by the rap veteran, "J-A-D-A (kiss)Muah!" Other than the fact that he could deliver a nice verse, Kiss' appearance kind of shocked me and then made me even question his attendance. I don't know, I just don't think Jadakiss has a Maybach honestly. But if Rich threw him on for lyricism's sake, then sure. But don't get me wrong now, he does spit. Kiss does his thing and then hands the ball right back to Erykah who then passes the rock to the Boss bringing up the rear.

But, of course they had to change keys for Roz
ay! The track gets darker as he asks for a cigar. He comes alive like a moth in the summer time. He brings us to the gorgeous pool outback chronologically taking us through his rise to power starting with the work but no pot to piss in. That was a great line if you think about it. Ross has undeniable ability to describe and rhyme. He makes it look so good! Pause. The beat breaks and falls into pieces as he reflects on his parents and their lack of substantive work. But it's black cards from here on out! A smooth finish after the signature 'Maybach Music' tag melodically rings and the boss throws his final "Rozay" slogan in to seal it closed. Classic.

11 O'clock Leak

Here's an interlude of sorts paying homage to one of my favorite duos, Outkast. I experimented again with "Jazze Belle" from the ATLiens album, possibly my favorite album from the Atlanta innovators.

Jon Schuyler - Infatuated

lemme know what you think.

[lyrics]
wonderin where you are
wonderin just how far
you are
from me.
Seeing you everywhere
At night when I lay my head
You're the star of my dreams.

It's unusual for me to catch this strong of a feeling
But its a beautiful disaster because I know what I'm willing to do
To be with you.

(chorus)
I'm infatuated
By the way you move, the things you do and say
Obsession underway
And now I'm just waiting
For the day that you say you feel the same.
